On April 21st 2019, there were eight coordinated explosions across Sri Lanka that killed 253 people and left over 500 more wounded. Those that carried out the attacks were Sri Lankan nationals, with reported ties to ISIS. Religious violence, Islamophobia and anti-Muslim violence surged as a result. 1691 refugees from Middle Eastern countries had been living in Sri Lanka for years now faced extreme danger. This act of terrorism had shifted the country back into the mind-set of war. This time there was a new enemy.
